God Has My Back

When I am facing a problem, feel overwhelmed, or am having difficulties that seem bigger than life, I have to work harder to remind myself that God is working and hasn't forgotten me.  If I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, God has my back.  And when it seems that nobody else does, it is even more important that I remind myself of this.   I trust my God to protect and care for me, because that is exactly what He has promised His people.  It may not happen the way I want or expect, but God knows what is best for me.

I have to remember that it isn't up to me to figure out how everything will work out or try to control that which is beyond my power.  And yes, I absolutely need to do my part.  At times, unfortunately, I have no idea what that entails.  So I have to wait, hopefully with patience, until God makes it clear.

As difficult as waiting can be, it is much better when I focus on God's promises.

Rather than thinking about the many things that I don't understand, it helps me to write down what I do know to be true.

will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.

Psalm 46:1-2

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

1 Cor 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Psalm 138

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
with your right hand you save me.

The Lord will vindicate me;
your love, Lord, endures forever—
do not abandon the works of your hands.

Psalm 140

Rescue me, Lord, from evildoers;
protect me from the violent,
who devise evil plans in their hearts
and stir up war every day.
They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s;
the poison of vipers is on their lips.

Keep me safe, Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
protect me from the violent,
who devise ways to trip my feet.
The arrogant have hidden a snare for me;
they have spread out the cords of their net
and have set traps for me along my path.

I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”
Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.
Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer,
you shield my head in the day of battle.
Do not grant the wicked their desires, Lord;
do not let their plans succeed.

Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
may the mischief of their lips engulf them.

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
